What Did Laura Chen Really Tell Us?
January 24, 2007
On the A look inside Google AdSense Blog today I watched a video from Laura Chen answering a few questions, well three to be exact, on issues related to AdSense referrals.
For question one somebody asks “Why am I receiving less than the full amount for each conversion in my reports? Is something wrong?”
Basically they want to know why they don’t get the full money for every referral. Simple - depending on where you are in the world depends on how much Adsense will pay you per install, this is pretty normal. What is abnormal is that Adsense won’t tell us how much for where. I don’t think I deal with any other affiliate program that operates this way. List of countries - list of payments. Typical of Google, no wonder so many people suggest conspiracies. I really have thought long and hard and can’t figure out the problem in letting webmasters know the payment structure. Perhaps it is because………stop - I don’t want to start any more Google conspiracies.
Next up, “After I’ve referred a person to AdSense, can I see how much they’ve earned so far?”
Again, a big no can do from Google, privacy blah blah blah - surely they could come up with something better than nothing?
Lastly, and the only part that made this clip watching was - “Can I ask users to click my referral buttons?”
Laura’s suggestion is that you can recommend the products but can’t bluntly say - “go ahead and click these please to make me a bag of cash”. That is nice to know as I’m sure I could write some good copy to accompany the Google Pack or Firefox text links.
