This video documents an amazing and true story of two guys returning to the African wilderness to visit a lion named Christain they had raised as a cub.

Christian was purchased in 1969 by two Australians living in London, John Rendall and Anthony ‘Ace’ Bourke (aka Ace Berg) from Harrods department store. At this time the cub weighed 35Ibs.

Within a year Christian grew to 185Ibs, too big to be kept as a pet and after a chance meeting with the stars of the 1966 film Born Free he was taken to Kenya, where he was rehabilitated into the wild by the ‘Lion Man’, George Adamson.

After several years and a few visits Rendall and Bourke wanted to return to Africa and visit their former pet one last time after George Adamson wrote to inform the pair that Christian was now head of his own pride - which was self sufficient and rarely returning to the camp.

They were told the chances of him remembering his former keepers was remote. Add to that he hadn’t been seen in nine months.

They traveled to Kenya with a hope that they’d get the chance for a final goodbye and were informed by Adamson on their arrival that Christian, his lioness and cubs, had remarkably appeared the previous evening and were now outside the camp.

This fascinating video outlines the story (wrongly) but it does capture the moment when Randell and Bourke are reunited with Christian.
