The Most Flamboyant Save By A Goalkeeper Ever

Rene Higuita is probably the most outrageous, flamboyant and eccentric goalkeeper the world is ever likely to see. He has even scored three gaols for his national side Columbia, and at 42 is still playing club football with Colombian second division team Deportivo Rionegro.

He has had a very colourful playing career and his antics haven’t always gone to plan but there is no doubting the fact he is an entertainer as well as a keeper.

Below is a clip of him in action from a friendly tie back in 1995 with England. In the middle of the match he produced the most amazing save out of nowhere - now this was no ordinary save, this was what Higuita nicknamed the “scorpion kick”.

He jumps down on his hands, throws his legs into the air and arches them over his head and clears the ball with his heels. Amazing and crazy, just listen to the commentators reaction.
