Site Advisor
March 3, 2006
Today I downloaded and tried Site Advisor. It’s a program that indicates what elements a site has, such as spyware, pop ups, the type of links it contains. When you search with Google, Yahoo! or MSN, a safety rating icon appears next to search results. When you hover over the icon further information appears in a small balloon.
I installed it and searched using Google. Well what a crock of bollocks it is. I searched for the celebrity Jennifer Ellison on google.co.uk. Link no.2 on the SERPS is “UK Babes - Jennifer Ellison Pics” - it has a green icon which reads “We’ve tested this website and found it to be safe” - REALLY???
If safe viewng is this little lot then this is a great program:
text ads that display “FUCK A LOCAL GIRL” & “NAKED CHICKS HERE” plus 2 others at the top of the page;
11 text links of an adult nature down the left hand side;
a banner for the Playboy site plus 3 AdultFriendfinder pics at the bottom of the page
I think SiteAdvisor needs some advice on it’s own program before it starts wrongly scrutinising other peoples work / websites when it’s own program clearly isn’t up to the job it claims to be able to do.
