No More Visa Payments At Allofmp3.com
October 21, 2006
On Thursday I was helping a friend sort out opening an account and depositing funds at allofmp3.com and noticed they no longer accept Visa as a payment method. American Express and others were available but no Visa.
Now I don’t have any of the others so I thought that was the end for my cheap high quality downloads. Then I had a look at the other payment options. I seen Xrost and thought I’d look there. OK so I had to open an account and I did. Then it turns out to deposit funds there from the UK you need to use Click & Buy. Fuck this was getting annoying and if it had been for any other service I’d have just said “forget it” and found an alternative. But there is no alternative is there? Yes there are many download sites who charge way over the top prices and if I was paying those inflated prices I’d just go and buy a copy of the CD and rip it into my system - regardless of any DRM that came with it ;-).
Anyway it seems Mastercard have followed suit and withdrew credit card processing for allofmp3.
Mediaservices, owners of Allofmp3, will explore all means, including legal action, to reverse Visa and MasterCard’s decision.
In statements issed by Visa and Mastercard they both citied that allofmp3 violated piracy rules.
More likely they have been “persuaded” by the American government, RIAA, BPI and numerous other organisations who have been attempting to have the Russian site closed for some time now with claims that it is illegal.
