Leona Lewis Was The Star Of The 2008 Brit Awards
February 21, 2008
So Leona Lewis was nominated for Best British Single, Best British Female, Best British Album plus Best British breakthrough Act and she won nothing. That’s the way it goes with the Brit Awards.
She is frowned upon by the big wigs who do the voting because she won a reality tv show. Music business snobery in full effect.
All the talk from last night’s show today has been about Amy Winehouse. There are a few things in this world I have absolutely no time for and junkies are one of them. To me they are the scum of the earth. Why would I want to put someone like that in the limelight and shower them with praise on a show that is aimed at a young audience. What kind of impression does that give? Anyway time to get off my soapbox, Winehouse was crap last night, Miss Lewis on the other hand was fantastic.
Leona was described by a US music executive as “the lovechild of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey”. In February 2007, she signed a £5 million ($9.7 million) contract in the United States with Clive Davis, founder of Arista Records. A year after wiining the X-Factor she finally released her second single and shifted 2 million albums copies of her debut album, Spirit, in six weeks. Not too bad for a reality tv show winner. Here is the footage of her performing her milion selling single ‘Bleeding Love’ at last nights Brits.
