Leona Lewis Tops The Billboard Singles Chart
March 27, 2008
A pat on the back and a kiss on the cheek to Leona Lewis for topping the singles chart in one of the most difficult markets in world music - the USA.
Today “Bleeding Love”, in its third week in the US Billboard Hot 100, reached number one. This was the first time in over 20 years that a British female solo artist had achieved the top spot since Kim Wilde in 1987 with “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”.
I last mentioned Leona here on BBI back in February after she shined at the Brits, won nothing and was over shadowed by junkie Amy Wino’s appearance despite being head and shoulders above everyone else performance wise, including Pail McCartney.
This young woman is going to be around for quite some time and to think 18 months ago she was working as a receptionist in a London office until her then boyfriend persuaded her to enter The X Factor, and here is the video of her first audition.
Would you believe me if I told you I said she was going to win it after hearing her sing for about 30 seconds?
