Red Bull was launched in 1987 by Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz and his Thai partner Chaleo Yoovidhya.

Red Bull is based on Krating Daeng, the Thai energy drink owned by Chaleo Yoovidhya, which has been sold in Asia since the 70’s. (pictured right)

Red Bull was adapted for the European market and is carbonated and not as sweet as Krating Daeng. (The original Thai drink actually tastes better and for me it’s energy boost is more noticeable)

Over the past 21 years the drink has grown to become a worldwide brand and in 2006, more than 3 billion cans were sold in over 130 countries.
