Bluetooth Mobile Phone Hacking
March 11, 2006
If your mobile phone has Blutooth capabilities then beware. The security of some models is questionable, VERY questonable. And for the unsuspecting owner it could be very costly.
Here’s how.
Some models security isn’t too good which means if a fraudster scans for other devices using a cheap PDA and finds your phone he can have total access and control of it. Total control meaning he will use your phone to dial a premium rate number (£1.50/min) which he owns. Your phone will stay connected until you run out of credit if it is a Pay As You Go type phone, or worse, until your battery dies if you are on a contract phone.
10 minutes to a premium rate number is £15 and it won’t take long in adding up if it stays connected longer.
So check your Bluetooth setting and switch it off if you don’t need it or you aren’t using it.
You’ve been warned!!!!
