Banned Ad: Hottest Back To School Fares
January 30, 2008
Budget airline Ryanair have been told they can’t run the ad below because it is was judged by the ASA that the advert linked “teenage girls with sexually provocative behaviour” and was likely to cause widespread offence.
The ASA received complaints from 13 readers and of the three newspapers that ran the ad, the Herald, Daily Mail and Scottish Daily Mail, only the Herald received one complaint.
So 14 people complain and the ad gets the chop, now that’s democracy in action. I had to laugh at the quote that it linked “teenage girls with sexually provocative behaviour” - they ought to take a look round any UK city centre on a Friday or Saturday night to see that banning this ad is too little to late. Everywhere you look there’s slappers out on the pull and looking for nookie who are dressed in less than the woman in the ad.
