Avoid The UK Telephone Spys

October 2, 2007

I have just read that the UK Government have passed a new law that requires every telephone call and text message sent and received from every phone in Britain to be logged and stored for a year. The article states over 600 UK Government departments have access to this information.

As I live in the UK this affects me, now I don’t have anything to hide but why the fuck should the Food Standards Authority have access to who I’m calling or txting? What privacy do I have if my local Council can see who has been calling me?

Now if the move was vital to tackle serious crime and terrorism as they say then why is the information being made accessible to so many other Government deaprtments?

This is a stitch up. As I said before I have nothing to hide, my problem is with who has access to this kind of information and how easily it could be abused.

So if you live in the UK and you don’t want people to know who you’re calling or txting nor who is calling or txting you then here is a simple way to make tracing who you are a little more difficult.

Don’t use your home telephone. Go to a local market and buy a Pay As You Go sim card, they don’t ask you for any personal details unlike when you visit a high street mobile phone chain who want to know everything down to your dogs name to sell you a £10 sim. Top it up with cash at a Pay Point outlet. Don’t register it for any of the freebies they offer you. If the sim has to be registered for any reason try using the False Identity Generator or the BT online Phone Book and randomly pick a name and address.

Of course they wil always be able to track your location but identifying who you actually are has been made a little more difficult.
